AHR WAS COMMISSIONED TO DELIVER THE NEW COUNCIL OFFICES FOR BLACKPOOL COUNCIL. AS PART OF THE COMMISSION WE WERE ALSO SELECTED TO DEVELOP AND DELIVER A COMPLETE PACKAGE OF INTERIOR DESIGN AND BRANDING THAT COULD BE ROLLED OUT THROUGH ALL OF THE BUILDINGS WITHIN BLACKPOOL COUNCIL'S PORTFOLIO.
The new Council Offices form part of the overall redevelopment of the Talbot Gateway area of Blackpool. The plot is centred in Phase 1 of the Masterplan, situated on Cookson Street and Talbot Road, accessed via the existing and realigned road system and shared public realm.
The BREEAM Excellent development comprises of a five storey office building with 85,000 ft2 nett internal office floor area, along with ground floor retail, offices and associated plant accommodation at ground and the roof. Car parking is provided for c.300 cars (including disabled persons spaces) in the Banks Street car park, west of Blackpool North Train Station.
To achieve the EPC rating of A the design of the building was thermally modelled and tested to allow the façade design to develop to optimise daylight penetration into the office space whilst the provision of vertical fin solar shading reduces the solar load on the South East and South West façades. A double skin façade overlooking Deansgate Plaza provides protection from solar gain and also helps to provide a marker for the entrance to the building. Renewable technologies were introduced in the form of Photovoltaic panels to increase the performance of the building to an A rated EPC.
