Maximising the potential of healthcare estates, whilst enhancing and supporting the wellbeing of those who use them
As more elective care services are moving into the community, we are helping our clients manage the shift from a reactionary healthcare model to a more preventative one. Our multi-sector experience has informed our understanding of the close link between health, residential, workplace and education and integrating health services into local communities, we can generate economic, social and health benefits for all.
Our expertise spans both community and acute healthcare and we have an in-depth understanding of wider hospital estates and the challenges they face. We are committed to delivering hospitals which meet the patient's needs, are sympathetic to the patient’s relatives, encourage innovative working practices and support the best clinical staff.
We maximise the potential of healthcare estates, creating innovative new buildings as well as reusing spaces and prioritising necessary maintenance. We work closely with NHS Trusts and local health boards across the UK and can be appointed via a range of public sector frameworks. Our diverse experience enables us to support shaping successful NHS estates – with the goal of delivering a truly sustainable health service, fit for the next 50 years.

Our approach to working in acute healthcare can be summarised in three ways, renewal, refresh and repurpose. We bring new life into healthcare estates, by reusing spaces and identifying new uses and harmonious functions, we can free up areas of the estate to maximise its potential. We extend the life of estates by performing condition assessments and prioritising necessary maintenance as part of comprehensive development control plans.
Often sites have existing complex planning challenges and historic buildings which must be sympathetically preserved. We have conducted significant refurbishments, incremental improvements and specialist remodels to bring buildings up to modern-day standards.
Environmental sustainability remains at the heart of our work in this sector. By creating new energy-efficient spaces, managing the reuse and reconfiguration of estates, Backlog Maintenance, PFI variations, along with managing and implementing decarbonisation plans, we are contributing to a greener NHS.
Community
As the nature of healthcare changes to a more holistic model, we create healing environments, integrating services within the communities that need them. These accessible spaces encourage interaction between patients, families and clinical staff and contribute to developing sustainable, resilient communities.
We have built close relationships with Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), developers, and local authorities, as well as with a variety of commercial and not-for-profit organisations. From primary, community and mental healthcare, we deliver buildings where people can access both long and short term support nearby, that feel positive, welcoming, and supportive. Through engaging with specialists, we tailor our solutions so that they are best suited to the communities they serve and prioritise health and wellbeing.
