project overview

Convenient healthcare facility blending into its town centre location

A true embodiment of ‘health on the high street’, Altrincham Hospital is located in the heart of the busy market town and delivers to the community an array of services and facilities.

The hospital is designed over five storeys with a basement for parking, and provides a wide range of care facilities, including a minor injuries unit, diagnostics facilities and physiotherapy services.

A key design driver for the hospital was adaptability — ensuring the facility could be easily reconfigured for different uses. This was achieved by maximising the number of generic clinical spaces across all floor plates, allowing multiple medical specialties to use the same areas as needs change.

The Haemodialysis Unit and Home training facility was the first in the UK to use a fully automatic dry concentrate acidic dialysis system, enabling inhouse dialysate production.

This automated process requires little intervention from staff and significantly reduces transport costs and storage requirements through the supply of dry powder instead of liquid dialysate.
