THE DEANERY CE ACADEMY IN SWINDON IS A DISTINCTIVE AND HIGH QUALITY SCHOOL FOR YEAR 7-13 PUPILS THAT FORMS PART OF THE EDUCATION CAMPUS AT THE HEART OF THE NEW 25,000-HOME WICHELSTOWE DEVELOPMENT.
Predominantly brick and render, the architecture seeks to provide a distinctive feature in the local area. With its entrance situated on a main public thoroughfare, the school provides a landmark at the entrance to the central zone of the new district and, with select facilities open to parents and local residents, will become a focal point of the new community.
Externally the site features a specialist multi-use games area and all weather pitch which, along with the four court sports hall, provides state-of-the-art sports facilities. These have been designed for use by local sports teams and pupils alike.
Designed with a fabric first approach, the naturally ventilated building includes 150 m2 of solar panels.
A large entrance atrium is bounded by the 450-seat theatre and 150-seat lecture hall, which have been developed to professional standards, and leads through to further teaching spaces. The learning resource centres and student café are fully glazed, providing a light, bright and open environment. With brick reveals and distinctive use of glazing and brickwork colonnades, the architectural style is contemporary architecture with a classical rhythm.
AHR is developing the Kingfisher Academy primary school and nursery which will also form part of the campus.
