PROJECT OVERVIEW

Making cycling an accessible and enjoyable part of daily life

To help people of all ages and abilities cycle, connect and build confidence, we have shaped a welcoming regional cycling hub in Bristol.

Bringing together our architecture and landscape design expertise, the project will transform a former brownfield site at Merriman’s and Henacre Open Space into a vibrant, inclusive destination for everyday activity and community events.

The hub will play a key role in increasing physical activity across the city. A one-kilometre closed-loop circuit, designed to regional standards, will safely support both training and racing.

These flexible and imaginative spaces will cater for everything from early learning to inclusive sessions for disabled people.

At the heart of the scheme, a welcoming two-storey building will bring people together. Flexible community rooms, workspaces and public amenities will create opportunities for local groups to host events and share space.

Carefully orientated to respond to the surrounding neighbourhood, the building will minimise visual impact while establishing a clear and inviting point of arrival.

landscape design

An approach that promotes openness, nature and connectivity

A new perimeter footpath will offer a healthy, traffic-free circular walking route, giving people an everyday opportunity to move and connect with their surroundings. Planned upgrades to National Cycle Network Route 41 and the Avon Cycleway will strengthen regional connections, making sustainable travel a more natural choice for more people.

A car park with electric vehicle charging points, smart security measures and considered lighting will ensure that everyone, whatever their mode of travel, can arrive and leave with ease and reassurance.

Thoughtful new planting and landscape enhancements will actively support local biodiversity and provide natural cooling, making the space more resilient and enjoyable across the seasons.
