Growing talent, growing region: Celebrating senior promotions
by AHR
We're proud to celebrate two well-deserved senior promotions from within our Bristol team - a reflection of exceptional talent, hard work and a period of remarkable growth across the South West, Wales and the wider region.
We’re delighted to announce that Adam Spall has been promoted to director, joining our practice ownership, and Hira Teirney has been promoted to regional director, stepping up from her role as associate director.
Both promotions come at a genuinely exciting moment for us across the South. Our Bristol team is delivering some of its most ambitious and varied work to date, and these appointments are a direct reflection of the talent, dedication and energy that have made that possible. Adam and Hira join existing directors Karle Burford, Gary Overton and Bill Storer, bringing real depth, experience and drive to our Southern leadership.
This is a growth story we’re incredibly proud of:
- A growing portfolio of high-profile commissions
- An expanding regional reach across the South West, Wales, the South East and London
- A team that has worked hard, delivered brilliantly and continues to raise the bar
These promotions celebrate all of that, and the people at the centre of it. Adam is a talented, creative designer whose passion for sustainable, people-centred buildings runs through everything he does. With broad experience across offices, leisure facilities, schools, universities, and residential developments, Adam brings both imaginative vision and analytical rigour to every project he leads.
Adam has been with AHR for more than 20 years and his promotion to director is a recognition of his outstanding contribution to AHR’s growth across the South West. He has built meaningful, lasting relationships with clients and has designed an impressive range of buildings that have secured multiple RIBA and BCO Awards. Adam is currently leading high profile projects at Brabazon, Wapping Wharf North and the Cranbrook Leisure and Wellbeing Centre, demonstrating a varied and ambitious pipeline of future work.
What a period it has been. We've worked incredibly hard to build something genuinely exciting here in the South West, a team with real depth, a portfolio we're proud of and clients who trust us to deliver.
Being made a director is a privilege, but it also feels like the start of the next chapter as we continue to build upon our success. There is so much more we want to achieve. I'm passionate about creating buildings that have longevity and are kind to the environment — and across this region, we have a real opportunity to do exactly that, at scale and with real ambition."
Adam Spall
Director, Bristol
Hira’s story at AHR is one of consistent excellence, determination and growth. In nearly 20 years with the practice, she has developed from project architect to one of the most respected and recognised designers in the region. Two of Hira’s recent projects have won RIBA awards, and she was named Project Architect of the Year for her contribution to an innovative education building supporting the next generation of student engineers in Bristol.
Hira’s collaborative instinct, her genuine care for the people she works with and her passion for design that improves lives make her a natural leader. As regional director, Hira leads our work on Bristol Temple Meads Southern Gateway - the first phase of the Temple Quarter regeneration, one of the largest regeneration schemes in Europe - a project that speaks directly to everything she believes great design can achieve.
I'm genuinely proud of what we've built here, as a team and as a practice across the South West. These past few years have seen us take on more complex, meaningful and more visible projects than ever before, and we've delivered them well.
That doesn't happen without an incredible group of people who care deeply about their work and each other. Becoming regional director is a real honour, and it makes me even more motivated to push forward, to win great work, develop brilliant people and keep doing what we love, which is creating places that genuinely improve people's lives."
Hira Teirney
Regional Director, Bristol

This breadth reflects years of deliberate investment in talent, relationships and regional knowledge. It is the result of a team that has worked hard to earn the trust of clients and communities and that is motivated to keep doing so.
The South West has given us so much to be proud of. High-profile projects, award-winning design, a growing team and clients who come back to us again and again - that's the result of years of hard work, and Adam and Hira have been central to it. These promotions are richly deserved. They recognise individual talent, yes, but they also reflect the strength, depth and resilience of the whole team. We've built something really special here - and we're absolutely determined to keep growing it."
