How we're supporting the future of National Museum Cardiff
by AHR
We’re pleased to be working with Amgueddfa Cymru to explore how National Museum Cardiff can continue to welcome, inspire and connect people as it approaches its centenary in 2027.
We’re pleased to support National Museum Cardiff at this meaningful moment in its story. With thoughtful, imaginative design, there is an opportunity to shape its next chapter in a way that supports the building and the wider cultural life of Wales for generations to come.
Connecting people, places and the environment
Historic buildings carry layers of history, memory and daily use. To care for them well, it’s important to understand how they were shaped, how they work today and how they might support future needs.
We bring long‑standing experience in the sensitive reuse and repurposing of historic and cultural buildings. Our approach is rooted in the belief that small, thoughtful changes can make a real difference. Carefully placed interventions can improve access, movement and flexibility, while protecting the character people value most.
For National Museum Cardiff, this means looking closely at how people arrive, move through the building and connect with collections, learning and community spaces. It also means understanding the quieter, behind‑the‑scenes activity that keeps the Museum running smoothly every day.
We’re delighted to be working with Amgueddfa Cymru on this significant project. We understand the importance of respecting original character while delivering modern, sustainable and accessible spaces.
Our approach ensures heritage and innovation work hand in hand, without compromising on the qualities that make buildings special. We’re incredibly proud to be part of the team helping to secure the future of this cultural gem as it approaches its centenary.”

A collaborative approach
We’re looking forward to working closely with Amgueddfa Cymru and a wider team, sharing ideas and learning from each other at every step. Just as importantly, the process will involve colleagues, volunteers, visitors and the local community. Their insight and experience are essential in shaping ideas that feel welcoming, practical and grounded in real life.
With a strong and growing presence in Wales, we’re proud to contribute to places that hold national and local significance. Keep an eye out across our social media channels for regular project updates.
