AS PART OF A WIDER INITIATIVE TO EXPAND SECONDARY PUPIL NUMBERS ACROSS THE CITY, CO-OP ACADEMY MANCHESTER HAVE EXPANDED THEIR PUPIL NUMBERS FROM 900 TO 1500. A SUBSTANTIAL EXTENSION AND REORGANISATION HAS BEEN REQUIRED TO ACCOMMODATE THIS.
The extension has been located adjacent to the site entrance and connects the existing school to previously separate sports facilities. Pupils have been given a much larger and prolific entrance space, which also acts as a community foyer outside of core school hours.
Directly connected to this foyer space is a 350-seat flexible theatre, community library, sports facilities and drama studios.
The 350-seat theatre, complete with orchestra pit, is unique in the region for the quality of space to be located within a school. The theatre has adaptable seating to enable a variety of configurations, with a tension wire grid above the entire volume for highly-flexible lighting and sound arrangements.
Further new resources include an impressive suite of specialist sports facilities with a new grass rugby pitch and running track, a gym and a climbing wall, allowing Co-op Academy to offer some of the finest school facilities in the city.
