Northwich Market
Northwich, UK
project overview
Reconnecting Northwich through a new market hall
We’re shaping a vibrant new market hall for Northwich at Barons Quay, creating a welcoming place where people can gather, socialise and connect. Bringing together retail, food, drink and community uses under one roof, the market hall will become a lively destination that encourages people to spend time together and enjoy the town centre.
With the loss of Northwich’s former outdoor market and the planned demolition of Weaver Square, this project reintroduces a market to the heart of the town. Once complete, it will provide local people with a place to meet, eat and reconnect, reinforcing the role of the town centre as a shared civic space.
Occupying a vacant unit at Barons Quay, the multi-stall market hall will support long-term regeneration by animating the centre with activity throughout the day and evening. Designed as an inclusive and accessible environment, it will offer a welcoming setting where everyone feels comfortable to visit and stay.
The ground floor will combine flexible retail units with leisure and dining spaces, arranged around a central eating area that invites people to linger over food and drink. Surrounding stalls will support independent traders and start-up businesses, nurturing local enterprise and offering a diverse range of experiences. A varied programme of events will bring people back regularly, helping to build a strong sense of community, connection and belonging.
We’re working closely with Cheshire West and Chester Council to deliver a market that truly supports both traders and customers. The new environment will feel comfortable, welcoming and designed with people at its heart.”
