project overview

Advanced manufacturing facility, expanding service provision

The Siemens Bogie Service Centre forms the third phase of the Siemens Rail Village, continuing the evolution of this advanced manufacturing masterplan. This state of the art industrial facility replaces the previous site in Lincolnshire, significantly expanding the services available, streamlining the rail production process.

Designed as part of a consolidated, strategically planned campus, the Siemens Rail Village brings every stage of rail manufacturing onto one site. The addition of the Bogie Service Centre further improves operational efficiency, strengthens productivity, creating a more resilient, future-ready advanced manufacturing site. To optimise workflow, the building is organised into two clear operational zones, one dedicated to bogie overhauls and another focused on wheelset overhauls, supported by new-build assembly areas.

Sustainability is a core driver of the wider masterplan. The centre has been designed to achieve LEED accreditation, using durable, recyclable materials wherever possible. Detailed embodied carbon assessments and Whole Life Cycle Assessment (LCA One Click) informed the design, helping reduce environmental impact and operational energy use.

Staff wellbeing drives every aspect of the design, supporting a happier, more productive workforce. The environment promotes connection, comfort and balance. Flexible communal workspaces, generous meeting rooms and welcoming welfare areas including modern changing facilities, help colleagues feel valued and supported. Across the wider Siemens masterplan, landscaped spaces with social seating and biodiverse planting offer moments of calm, giving people space to recharge, enjoy nature and build stronger relationships during their downtime.

This development forms part of Siemens £200 million regional investment, creating new jobs and delivering broad social and economic benefits for the community. The Siemens Rail Village reflects a long-term ambition to build a sustainable, resilient and innovation-led manufacturing network.

We also designed phases one and two of the masterplan, including the Mobility Train Manufacturing Facility and the Mobility Traction Drives UK and Ireland Facility.
