Thrive Health and Wellbeing Centre, The University of Salford
We are proud to see Thrive Health and Wellbeing Centre recognised with the Community (unbuilt) award, which recognises buildings that enhance the local community. From the outset of the project we have worked alongside academics, clinicians, students, estates teams and community partners, ensuring the facilities match the needs of those who use them. This win belongs to everyone who helped shape the project.
Designed for the University of Salford, the centre brings together teaching, clinical practice and community health in one place. As one of the first projects in the UK to apply trauma-informed design principles throughout, Thrive has been shaped around inclusivity, dignity and ease of access, with calming interiors, open layouts and thoughtful spaces for therapy, study and everyday support.
The all-electric building is targeting BREEAM Excellent and WELL Gold, while roof terraces, shared gardens, a greenhouse and biophilic design features help create a healthier, more uplifting environment for students, academics and the wider community. These features support green building standards, low-carbon design, and sustainable wellbeing spaces.
