Celebrating our shortlisting at the Building Design (BD) Architect of the Year Awards 2026

We've been shortlisted at this year's BD Architect of the Year Awards in not one, but two prestigious categories: Education Architect of the Year (Nursery – Sixth Form) and Regenerative Design Architect of the Year.

This recognition celebrates our commitment to delivering outstanding design excellence, sustainability leadership and inclusive spaces that support wellbeing and community life.

Our award submissions showcase a body of work from across the practice, spanning education, healthcare and civic and community sectors, demonstrating how creative design, technical rigour and longstanding partnerships can deliver buildings that inspire, perform and endure.

Education Architect of the Year (Nursery – Sixth Form) 

We are proud of this shortlisting, which reflects the depth and breadth of our expertise in the education sector, built on decades of experience. Working across architecture, interior design and landscape design, we take a joined-up approach to shaping meaningful learning environments that support both education and wellbeing.

Our work spans every stage of learning, from nursery settings through to sixth form colleges, showing how thoughtful, high quality design can positively influence development, attainment and day-to-day experience. Each project is carefully considered to create spaces that feel welcoming, inclusive and easy to navigate, while supporting modern teaching methods and evolving needs.

Across the UK, we continue to deliver schools and colleges that are sustainable, community-focused and designed for long-term value. From low-carbon strategies and efficient building performance to outdoor spaces that encourage play, learning and connection, our work is grounded in creating healthy, future-ready environments that benefit students, educators and the wider community.

Caledonia High School

A beacon of sustainable design, this recently completed, Passivhaus Classic-targeted secondary schoolin Fife targets rigorous RIBA embodied carbon and Scottish Futures Trust net zero standards.

Pear Tree SEND School

This specialist secondary school exemplifies inclusive design and empowers young people with complex needs for life beyond school.

Wellfield Academy

Designed to achieve net zero carbon in operation, this school utilises an efficient component-based, mass-timber design with biophilic design principles to bring the outdoors in, creating a calm environment that enriches the learner journey for everyone. The school is one of five GenZero national pathfinder schools from the Department for Education and we are also proud to be delivering a second, Woodside Primary School in Hertfordshire.

Woodside Primary School

One of five GenZero national pathfinder schools from the Department for Education, our design for this school creates a replicable, low-carbon blueprint that is shaping how future schools are delivered across the UK. We are also proud to be delivering a second GenZero national pathfinder school, Wellfield Academy in Leyland.

Regenerative Design Architect of the Year

Following being named Net Zero Architect of the Year at last year’s BD Awards, we’re delighted to be shortlisted in the Regenerative Design Architect of the Year category. Sustainability is integral to how we work, shaping every decision from early concept through to delivery and post-occupancy.

This recognition builds on a strong track record of award winning sustainable projects and reflects our role as a leader in the industry. Our people bring real passion to this work, actively sharing knowledge through roundtables, panel events and industry forums, while continually exploring practical ways to reduce carbon and improve performance across the built environment.

Working across a variety of sectors and services, we take a holistic approach to net zero carbon design. This means looking beyond individual buildings to consider whole life carbon, operational efficiency and long-term adaptability. Our portfolio demonstrates how this approach translates into meaningful outcomes, reducing carbon emissions while creating places that are healthy, resilient and future-ready.

From schools and hospitals to residential developments and innovation districts, we shape buildings that perform, adapt and support positive change.

Templehall Community Hub

Templehall Community Hub is a landmark within its the local community and designed to achieve Passivhaus Classic certification while is supporting Fife Council’s wider sustainability objectives. The hub offers a range of family, community and youth activities, encouraging engagement and connection, improving community health outcomes.

Countess of Chester Hospital's Women and Children's Building

As the first building to be in England to be approved under the NHS Net Zero Building Standard, the Women and Children’s Building reimagines maternity and neonatal care while setting a benchmark for patient-centred healthcare design.

Caledonia High School

As well as being submitted within the Education Architect of the Year (Nursery – Sixth Form) category, this sustainable learning environment has received further recognition within this category. Replacing the outdated Inverkeithing High School, this new inclusive secondary school will provide a fresh, new space, that not only meets the ever-changing needs of the modern pupil but integrates seamlessly with the local community.

Being shortlisted is a proud moment for us, it reflects the collective effort behind each project and our approach: combining creative design with technical rigour, embedding sustainability from day one and placing people at the heart of every decision.
