This shortlist recognises the creativity, care and local knowledge our Birmingham and Shrewsbury teams bring to every project, from transforming hospital environments to bringing new life to town centres.

This shortlist celebrates the breadth of that work and the care our colleagues bring to every project. Working closely with clients and collaborators, we bring together creative thinking, technical expertise and a deep understanding of the region’s needs. Whether improving an existing building or creating a new neighbourhood, we focus on places that support everyday life and offer lasting value.

Here’s a look at some of our work from across the region:

A new chapter for healthcare in the West Midlands

For patients, families and the people delivering care, a hospital’s design can make a meaningful difference to everyday experiences. Our work with Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) puts their comfort, dignity and wellbeing at the heart of a major hospital project known as the ‘Hospitals Transformation Programme’ (HTP).

The programme will enhance healthcare across two sites, Princess Royal Hospital in Telford and Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in Shrewsbury, bringing together purpose-built facilities to support modern healthcare practices and create a positive environment for care teams and patients. SaTH brings world-leading healthcare to the region, making specialist care more accessible for local communities.

Working closely with clinicians, estates teams and project partners has been key. The result is a design that will help make workflows smoother, build resilient, future ready healthcare environments and improve the experiences and wellbeing of both patients and staff."

Supporting every learner through inclusive, human-centred design

The same focus on wellbeing shapes our education work across the region, where people-led design helps to deliver sustainable, inclusive and high-performing education spaces, which inspire learners, empower staff and strengthen communities.

At Queensway Academy, a new specialist school in Shropshire, we’ve created a nurturing environment for pupils aged 11 to 16 with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), including social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. Developed for the Learning Community Trust, the school’s calm, structured layout supports familiar routines and makes spaces easy to navigate.

At Queensway Academy, we designed every space around the child. Sensory-informed classrooms, secure outdoor learning and accessible facilities create the calm, structured environment the DfE sees as a benchmark for future SEND projects nationally."

Shaping places where people can come together

As the way people live and connect shifts over time, we’re helping create environments that bring people together and strengthen their connections to the communities around them.

At the Eternal Wall of Answered Prayer in Birmingham, our visitor centre will invite people to explore stories of faith and consider their own journeys. Developed closely with our client and wider design team, the centre will offer a welcoming introduction to the monument, guiding visitors naturally from arrival to the Wall itself.

The centre’s gently curved form echoes the Wall, while a green roof and earthy materials help it sit comfortably within the landscape. Its design and open spaces keep the monument at the heart of the experience, giving visitors a clear sense of arrival.

This project demanded a deeply considered, design-led approach. By thinking carefully about how people move through and experience the space, from quiet reflection to gathering and learning, we've been able to create a space that serves the community, with the flexibility to grow and evolve over time."
