project overview

A mixed use, low carbon development shaped by new homes

Station Quarter marks an important step in the regeneration of Telford town centre, creating a new mixed use neighbourhood where people can live, learn and relax within easy reach of everyday amenities.

Located on one of the most prominent sites in Telford, Station Quarter occupies a key location between Telford Central Station and Telford Centre - the local shopping centre.

Working with Telford and Wrekin Council, we developed the masterplan and architectural design for the residential elements of the site, supporting Telford’s first walkable neighbourhood.

The residential masterplan brings together a varied mix of contemporary homes, including back to back dwellings, townhouses and low-carbon apartments available for private rent.

These are set within a landscaped, pedestrian priority environment, with shared gardens and welcoming outdoor spaces designed to help people meet, pause and feel part of a growing community.

Sustainability is built into the project from the outset. The homes are designed to support lower energy use, with renewable technologies including solar photovoltaic (PV) panels.

Landscape-led measures improve biodiversity, support active travel and help create a healthier, more resilient town centre environment that supports long-term wellbeing.

Project aims

Creating a walkable, sustainable neighbourhood in the heart of Telford

Our aim was to help create a neighbourhood with people, community and everyday convenience at its heart. By bringing homes, public spaces, education, employment and leisure closer together, Station Quarter supports easier journeys across the town centre and encourages more walking and cycling between Telford Central Station, Telford Centre and nearby neighbourhoods.

The masterplan is designed to bring fresh activity into the heart of Telford, creating a mixed use place that feels welcoming, safe and lively. New homes sit alongside education and hospitality, giving residents and visitors more reasons to spend time in the town centre and helping support its long-term regeneration.

We wanted to introduce a new type of town centre living for Telford. The mix of apartments, townhouses and back to back homes supports a more varied residential community, with private and shared spaces that are comfortable, practical and easy to enjoy. These spaces sit within a landscaped area that allows neighbours to meet, while also giving people quieter places to relax.

The design is rooted in Telford’s industrial heritage while looking confidently to the future. Brick, texture, rhythm and form are used in a contemporary way, giving Station Quarter a strong local identity without mimicking the past. Alongside this, the project responds to Telford and Wrekin Council’s climate emergency declaration through lower energy homes, renewable technologies, active travel routes, biodiversity improvements and climate resilient public spaces.

Design Concept

Rooted in Telford's heritage, designed for the community

Telford’s history of mining, steel, ironworks and brickmaking has informed the character of Station Quarter. Red brick, varied tones and subtle changes in texture create a contemporary material palette rooted in the local area. This approach recognises Telford’s heritage while giving the new neighbourhood a clear and modern identity.

Inside the apartment building, shared community spaces give residents places to meet, work, relax and build relationships. These areas support a more sociable way of living, helping people feel connected to their neighbours and the wider community.

The outdoor spaces are designed to be flexible, welcoming and green. Seating, planting and open areas create places for residents, students, visitors and the wider public to pause, gather or spend time outdoors, while also supporting biodiversity and a safer, more active town centre environment.

Regeneration

Connecting people, place and community

This place-led regeneration is designed to do more than transform an underused site. By aligning new homes with transport connections, walkable routes, public space and everyday amenities, Station Quarter supports not just housing delivery, but quality of place. Bringing forward a place that is adaptable and supports a resilient community in Telford.

The development creates a greener, more accessible neighbourhood shaped by landscape and informed by local heritage. Shared outdoor spaces support biodiversity and social connection, helping to establish a strong benchmark for sustainable placemaking, long-term wellbeing and a lasting sense of belonging.

The result is the creation of a well-connected town centre neighbourhood, supported by the council, that can respond to communities’ changing needs while fostering a strong sense of belonging for residents.
