Stuart Bryson to lead AHR’s defence sector group
by AHR
We’re delighted that regional director Stuart Bryson will lead our defence sector group for architecture, strengthening our focus on supporting the UK’s evolving defence estate.
Defence infrastructure is entering a new period of investment as the UK responds to changing global conditions and operational needs. We see growing opportunities to support this transformation, helping create places where military personnel can live, work and train safely and effectively.
Stuart’s role will help bring together the extensive defence experience that exists across our teams. While he will lead the sector group, our defence work is delivered by specialists across our UK offices who bring long-standing knowledge of military estates and operational environments.
Stuart brings significant experience across the full range of buildings that make up a modern defence estate. His work includes Single Living Accommodation (SLA), specialist training environments, operational facilities and workplaces supporting defence organisations across the UK.
He also has extensive experience working within secure, live environments. Stuart understands the logistical challenges of operational sites and has strong knowledge of Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) requirements.
Supporting the UK’s evolving defence estateOur work in this area spans new accommodation, specialist operational facilities and major estate programmes. Projects include Single Living Accommodation at RAF Kinloss Barracks and Stafford Beacon Barracks, the Typhoon Installed Engine Test Facility at RAF Lossiemouth and our involvement in the Defence Estate Optimisation Programme at RAF Boulmer and RAF Leeming.
Because many defence projects operate within high-security environments, they are not always widely visible. However, they represent decades of trusted delivery supporting the infrastructure that underpins national security.
Our defence work also reflects the breadth of our architecture and building consultancy expertise. Alongside new buildings and specialist facilities, we support clients with estate reviews, condition surveys, refurbishment strategies and the improvement of existing buildings. From feasibility and masterplanning through to retrofit, compliance and long-term asset management, this combined expertise helps defence organisations make informed decisions and get the best performance from their estates.
AHR has a strong history of supporting defence estates and the people who rely on them every day. We have a huge amount of experience across the practice and I’m looking forward to bringing that knowledge together as we continue strengthening our relationships across the defence community."
