We’re delighted that plans have been approved for this transformative transport hub and civic space, a key milestone in Bristol’s largest regeneration project, promoting greener travel and economic growth.

Located on former railway land south of Bristol Temple Meads station, the Southern Gateway is the first phase of the Bristol Temple Quarter regeneration, one of the largest urban renewal projects in Europe.

Designed as a key arrival point for the city, the Southern Gateway will transform an underused site into a welcoming, accessible and sustainable transport interchange.

The project will better connect communities south of Bristol with the city centre and unlock land for thousands of new homes and jobs across the wider Bristol Temple Quarter area.

Transforming the station quarter into a thriving urban destination

Guided by placemaking principles and a strong focus on urban design, our proposals will create a welcoming destination for Bristol, with high quality public realm that encourages movement, social interaction and a strong sense of arrival.

A central landscaped boulevard will provide an intuitive route between the station, transport hub and wider city centre, enhancing wayfinding and improving active travel connections for people walking, cycling and using public transport.

Native, pollinator-friendly planting and green infrastructure such as the proposed green roof on the cycle hub will promote biodiversity net gain and contribute to the site’s ecological value. Integrated planters, seating areas and inclusive social spaces will invite people to pause, connect and enjoy moments of rest within a safe, accessible environment.

Working collaboratively with Arup, Bristol City Council, Bristol Temple Quarter, Network Rail and WECA, we’re helping to shape a new civic space that celebrates Bristol’s creative identity, supports sustainable growth, and sets a benchmark for climate-resilient urban regeneration.

We’re really pleased to see this milestone reached and excited for what’s ahead. This project is about much more than transforming a site but about shaping the future of the city we live and work in. Creating a place that’s connected, inclusive and full of life is something we’re incredibly proud to be part of.”
