Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College: Working together to support career development

by AHR
We have been working with Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College in Leeds since 2000, developing a close working relationship which has supported the delivery of numerous projects, and placed the College in the best possible position for the future.
Working collaboratively
Helping to support the increase of the College’s T-Level provision, most recently, we completed the development of a new sixth-form teaching block, creating a four-storey extension to the campus.
To ensure that our design was developed to fully meet the needs and requirements of the students and staff, we worked with College staff as the project progressed.
Creating additional space at the College, we were appointed to deliver a new mezzanine level in the main hall, giving students more space to learn and collaborate while supporting the College’s growing needs.
Supporting the College and its students with a wealth of initiatives, we aim to provide value beyond the successful delivery of projects whilst working with the College.

Social value
In addition to our schemes which support the development of the campus, we have also been supporting students with career goal development and employability skills. This is a key element of our service, and allows us to provide extra benefits and support to young people who are considering their next moves and future careers.
We started providing social value with the College in 2024, when architectural technologist, Justina Wilson, and social value champion, Olivia Thompson, attended the annual careers fair at the College.
We also attended the College’s careers fair in February this year, discussing opportunities within the industry and careers in building consultancy and architecture, helping students to decide on their next steps after finishing their post-16 education.
Most recently, we attended employability sessions at the College, with associate, Tim Ordway, and social value champion, Olivia Thompson. The sessions were designed to help students to develop essential skills to help them secure jobs in their chosen roles.
We shared advice and insight into creating CVs and completing job applications, tailoring skills and experience to skillsets highlighted in job descriptions to help when answering questions.

Future activity
We will be carrying out additional engagement with the College across the new academic year, starting with mock interviews and a one-week work experience placement in October, as well as attending the College’s careers fair in January.
We are developing stronger links with the College through supporting students’ career goals and ambitions, and we hope to continue this through future activities, working directly with the Careers department to create a tailored programme of opportunities for young people.
