In our latest podcast episode, we dive into the evolving needs of healthcare environments and the role of smarter, more human-centred design. How can design help us deliver care more effectively?

Our host, associate director Victoria Shepherdson and healthcare lead for the south is joined by director and national healthcare lead Gareth Banks and Development Director Ewan Forsyth at Prime Plc. The three sit down for a dynamic conversation on the future of healthcare spaces.

A central theme is patient-focused design: how we create healthcare environments that not only improve outcomes but reduce stress, support staff wellbeing and feel truly embedded in local communities.

The discussion explores the growing shift toward community-based care, such as Community Diagnostic Centres and high street health hubs, and the benefits they bring in terms of accessibility, early diagnosis and regeneration of local areas.

They also highlight the importance of design and commercial flexibility, ensuring healthcare facilities can adapt to evolving clinical needs, technologies and funding models.

In this episode, we refer to a few technical abbreviations. For those who may be unfamiliar with these we have defined them below:

CDC - Community Diagnostic Centre

CT Scanner – Computed Tomography Scanner

EV – Electric Vehicle

kVA – Kilovolt-Amperes

MIHP -Manchester Institute of Health and Performance

MRI – Magnetic Resonance Imaging
