Airedale Hospital appoints expert design team for new, state of the art healthcare facility

by AHR
Following the announcement of Airedale General Hospital being accepted on to the New Hospital Programme, we’re proud to be in the design team reimagining the space, creating a future-focused healthcare environment focused on wellbeing, safety and comfort for patients, staff and the community.
This significant appointment marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, as together, with an excellent project team, we will bring forward a state of the art, purpose-built hospital that puts people first - from patients and staff to the wider community.
The team, led by P+HS Architects in partnership with us and supported by Curtins (Civil & Structural Engineers) and AECOM (Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing Consultants), brings together award-winning expertise and a shared vision for delivering a hospital that is forward-looking, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of patients, staff, and the wider community. Gleeds, Archus, KPMG and HDR are providing additional healthcare expertise to develop the project.
Our team is united by a shared vision: to design a hospital that is sustainable, forward-thinking and centred around the real needs of the people it serves.
The proposed development will replace the existing RAAC hospital, maximising the use of cleaner, greener materials, digital technologies and modern methods of construction (MMC).
We’re excited to work with this team to help realise the Trust’s vision for a modern, sustainable hospital that serves the community for generations to come.
Our experience designing and delivering large-scale healthcare projects both in the UK and internationally — quickly and efficiently — ensures we’re well-prepared to meet the unique challenges of this project.”
Gareth Banks
Director, Head of Healthcare
The new Airedale Hospital will be developed using the Hospital 2.0 approach — a blueprint for modern healthcare buildings that improves clinical outcomes, enhances flexibility and supports efficient operations.
Working closely with clinical teams, estates staff and service users, the design will respond not only to today’s needs but also to the challenges and opportunities of the future.
The benefits of designing a new hospital are far-reaching. It enables us to incorporate the very latest thinking around sustainability, technology and design for wellbeing, creating spaces filled with natural light, improving wayfinding, reducing operational costs and supporting smoother clinical flows.
We’re delighted to be working in close collaboration with AHR. Their experience and approach have complemented ours brilliantly throughout the bid process, and we’re excited to continue that collaboration as we move forward.”
