A major step forward for this transformative new transport hub and civic space at the heart of Bristol’s largest regeneration project.

Located on former railway land to the south of Bristol Temple Meads station, the Southern Gateway is the first phase of the Temple Quarter regeneration — one of the largest regeneration schemes in Europe.

Designed as a key point of arrival for the city, the Southern Gateway will revitalise a previously underused site into a welcoming, accessible and sustainable transport interchange.

It will connect communities to the south of Bristol with the city centre, while unlocking land to support thousands of new homes and jobs across the wider Temple Quarter area.

Public spaces that reflect Bristol's value

Welcoming, people-first design

This integrated transport hub will seamlessly bring together multiple modes of travel, making it easy to switch between train, bus, taxi, bike, e-scooter, or car - all within a single, accessible location.

For cyclists, a secure and user-friendly cycle hub with a proposed biodiverse green roof promotes active travel.

To support low-emission and sustainable transport, the scheme will include dedicated spaces for electric vehicle (EV) charging, short-stay parking, scooter parking and a new multi-storey car park topped with a PV array.

Shaping a welcoming and vibrant destination

Guided by placemaking principles, our proposals also include high quality public realm that supports movement, social interaction and a strong sense of arrival. A central boulevard will guide people through the site, creating an easy-to-navigate, landscaped route between the station, the transport hub and the wider city.

Native, pollinator-friendly planting will support biodiversity, while a proposed green roof on the cycle hub and integrated planters throughout the site add ecological and visual value. Inclusive social spaces will offer areas for pause, community activity, or simply a moment of rest.

We’re looking forward to continuing our work alongside Arup, Network Rail and Bristol City Council to shape this new civic space that reflects the city’s creative identity and commitment to sustainable growth.
