Director Samantha Smith is an inspiring leader and champion of female leadership in the construction industry, developing and supporting all those she works with. Having been with us for over 30 years, Sam has several responsibilities across the practice, including leading our transport sector offering, and has broad experience, industry knowledge and commercial acumen working at a strategic level across rail and education.

With experience across a range of sectors, Sam has specialist knowledge in transport infrastructure and education. Strategically, she supports and enables our clients to create wider, more efficient programmes of work to fulfil their needs and requirements.
As building consultancy’s finance director, Sam coordinates and encourages active management of all financial aspects of the business leading a team in our Huddersfield office.
Instrumental in driving our work in the transport infrastructure sector, Sam leads our work with the TransPennine route, and holds a position on the Alliance Leadership Team where she proudly sits as the only female member.
Sam has also acted as a mentor to construction professionals both within AHR and externally, championing diversity in the industry and providing support for those hoping to progress in their professions. She aims to change perceptions of what work in the construction and rail industries looks like, encouraging people to consider a wider range of careers.
Passionate about taking up a challenge, Sam applies a great level of dedication to both her personal and work life, having recently completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks and the London and Edinburgh marathons. She enjoys the focus this gives her and the drive and dedication that is needed to succeed in these types of challenges.
