AHR has completed the redevelopment of the Watson Building, the only surviving element of the original Lewis’s department store in the Liverpool city centre; providing 75,000ft2 of flexible Grade A office space.
The scheme, which included the refurbishment of the existing grade II listed Watson building, a one-storey roof extension and the construction of a new 8 storey extension, is an integral part of Liverpool’s Central Village development, which features a mix of office, retail and leisure space.
The Watson Building, which was formerly used as offices, storage and loading bays for the historic Lewis’s department store, is located on Renshaw Street and offers sweeping views of the city skyline. Landmarks including the Royal Liver Building, Metropolitan Cathedral and Radio City Tower are visible from the new office space.
Clad in Portland stone the new extension matches the colour and texture of the adjoining Watson Building to complement its classical composition. A new glazed two storey entrance hall welcomes visitors into the building leading to office spaces designed to provide thermal and acoustic efficiencies suited for a modern office environment.
Imran Kassim, Regional Director at AHR said: “The Watson Building is all that remains of the original 1930s Lewis’s department store, a much loved building in Liverpool. Our development willensure the building continues to be a valued part of Liverpool city centre by upgrading it to create a desirable and versatile office space.”
