The 2015 World Green Building Council (WGBC) European Leadership Awards winners have been announced. AHR would like to congratulate the very worthy recipients and nominees. Further details are available on the WGBC webiste.
Our Director of Sustainable Architecture & Research, Judit Kimpian acted as a jury member for the awards on behalf of the Architects' Council of Europe (ACE).
The biennial awards were established by WorldGBC’s Europe Regional Network to promote leadership on sustainability and inspire best practice in building projects, business practice and public policy.
Construction is one of the most resource intensive sectors and buildings are responsible for more than 35% of the EU’s CO2 emissions. Construction professionals are facing an epic challenge: to transform the way in which we design, procure, construct and operate buildings to help decouple economic growth and social well-being from the consumption of energy and natural resources. The sector needs more peer-reviewed exemplars that can guide further innovation in policy and practice.
The reporting of energy as well as other resource consumption data is an important step forward and WGBC’s promotion of the use of evidence and quantitative data in the evaluation of building sustainability is highly commendable.
It is the second year that ACE has participated in the jury process for the WGBC’s pan-European sustainability awards and in doing so ACE promotes architectural quality in creating sustainable buildings that stand the test of time.
