ST PAUL'S IS A 1,200 PUPIL SCHOOL INCLUDING A 150 PLACE SIXTH FORM COMPRISING 5,200M2 OF NEW BUILD AND 5,000M2 OF RETAINED ESTATE. THE SCHEME PROVIDES A NEW SIXTH FORM, LEARNING FORUM, THEATRE AND ART AND DESIGN, SCIENCE AND HUMANITIES ACCOMMODATION.
To facilitate a single phase construction and avoid the cost of temporary accommodation, the new building is located at the front of the site outside the footprint of the existing accommodation. Due to site constraints, the new building had to be designed as a 3 storey block within a compact footprint, carefully positioned to minimize the loss of a number of mature oak trees. The new building features a large flexible plaza space combining learning and library, set in a top lit, triple height space with circulation on the upper floors arranged around the void.
