The building comprises two triangular wings located either side of a triple height top lit central space. At the centre sits a drum housing the auditorium, drama space and Learning Resource Centre. The intention is that this heart of the building will be used as flexible learning space and will also provide an area for dining. Although on a constrained site, an all-weather pitch, multi-use games area and gardens are also provided with a roof terrace at second floor, accessed from the Learning Resource Centre.
AHR’s Building Consultancy has continued a trusted advisor relationship with the school, with re-appointments for subsequent refurbishment, reconfiguration, and extension projects.
Our building consultants were commissioned to convert an under-used undercroft car park into the University Gateway, a new sixth-form study area, by reconfiguring the original layout to create new formal and informal teaching space together with gym facilities, a student café, and a reception area.
AHR Building Consultancy was then commissioned to provide a design and to perform the duties of Employer’s Agent for the Renaissance Centre, a new inclusion and student support centre which provides teaching facilities for pupils with special educational requirements. AHR supported the Academy in making the application for funding which secured the viability of this scheme.
Further developments were commissioned and our most recent project was to extend the entrance hall, providing additional security, a new reception desk, and increased, more flexible multi-function space that can be used for conferences and exhibitions.
