As the key part of the City’s 2008 Transportation Masterplan, the new 40km line extends from Blair Station in the east to Tunney’s Pasture in the southwest and predominantly involves upgrading existing the BRT infrastructure to LRT. It also includes a 2.5km long underground section through the city’s downtown area which will incorporate three new subsurface metro stations.
The three stations are situated in highly constrained urban sites with high-rise buildings in close proximity. Entrances are within sidewalks with possibilities of future integration into existing buildings. The stations also respond to the extreme climatic requirements typical of the region.
