The envelope was required to be simple to construct, economical and minimise light pollution to nearby apartments.
In response, we have designed a deceptively simple cladding system comprising of a single panel type tessellated across the façade and optimised to aluminium sheet dimensions to minimise waste.
An equilateral panel footprint is indented and folded to form individual 3 dimensional kite panels. These are rotated around a node plate, attached to cladding rails at 1800mm centres forming a subdivision of three parking spaces and the structural grid. The rotated panels form hexagonal arrays which are then tessellated across the façade.
The resulting 3 dimensional building skin expresses the simplicity of the building typology and offers a rich and visually engaging façade that captures contrasts of light and shade whilst developing in form as the observer moves past.
