OUR CLIENT, MORGAN SINDALL, ASSEMBLED A TEAM OF EXPERIENCED CONSULTANTS WITH THE PURPOSE OF DEVELOPING A PROTOTYPE PRIMARY SCHOOL AS A RESPONSE TO A GROWING NEED FOR COST EFFECTIVE, EDUCATIONAL BUILDINGS. AHR DESIGNED TWO NEW PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN LIVERPOOL, NEW PARK PRIMARY SCHOOL AND NORTHWAY PRIMARY SCHOOL.
A solution was developed which combined the benefits of off site timber construction with standard building techniques and components to ensure they can be constructed in any part of the country utilising only local labour. The design team have continually been developing the prototype, refining the design and engineering the product to be efficient and cost effective but more importantly underpinning educational delivery, flexibility and architectural quality.
The new buildings include breakout spaces with ICT and library facilities and a multipurpose school hall which can act as a meeting, dining or sports areas for the pupils, as well as a central ‘Spanish Steps’ area for larger assemblies and breakout learning.
The schools were commissioned by Liverpool City Council as part of Liverpool’s School Investment Programme, focusing on delivering schools with a low carbon agenda. The prototype primary school designs were presented to CABE and were very well received. Morgan Sindall have committed to an 80% local spend wherever the schools are constructed.
