AHR BUILDING CONSULTANCY WAS APPOINTED TO UNDERTAKE PLANNED MAINTENANCE SURVEYS OF 10 LEISURE CENTRES CONSIDERING ALL ASPECTS OF THE BUILDING FABRIC AND SERVICE INSTALLATIONS OVER A 25 YEAR PERIOD.
AHR BUILDING CONSULTANCY LED A MULTI-DISCIPLINARY TEAM, UTILISING IN-HOUSE EXPERTISE COMPLEMENTED BY SPECIALIST CONSULTANTS. THE SURVEYS FOCUSED ON HEALTH AND SAFETY ISSUES AND ESSENTIAL REPAIRS NECESSARY TO MAINTAIN THE OPERATIONAL STATUS OF THE CENTRES.
Our skills assisted the Council in assessing its financial liabilities and aided in the decision making process which resulted in the Council forming Kirklees Active Leisure (KAL) which is a charitable trust managing leisure facilities and swimming pools on behalf of Kirklees Council. Following the successful completion of the surveys, AHR Building Consultancy was appointed to implement the first phase of repair and maintenance works.
The original project team was reformed and our understanding of the construction process combined with our familiarity with the operational use of the centres and consequent revenue streams allowed us to programme the works in the most cost effective and expedient manner.
Since KAL was created, more than £20 million has been reinvested by Kirklees Council and KAL into local leisure centres, the benefit being increased amounts of capital investment available to deal with the maintenance and improvement works. This has included a number of significant refurbishment remodelling schemes involving swimming pool upgrades and the introduction of large scale gym facilities to ensure KAL’s facilities are ‘state of the art’.
