WE WORKED IN COLLABORATION WITH KINGSPAN, DDA & MCLEOD & AITKEN TO CREATE A GLOBALLY VIABLE LOW ENERGY STORE PROPOSITION. THE OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT WAS TO DESIGN A FOOD STORE WHICH REDUCES AS FAR AS POSSIBLE THE REQUIREMENT FOR ENERGY IN THE MOST COST EFFECTIVE OF WAYS.
As well as this the concept model should deliver a large degree if inherent flexibility whether this be in architectural design, layout or construction methodology whilst also maintained and enhancing operation as far as possible.
The store consists of a variety of cost effective technologies that heat, cool, ventilate and supply energy and water. It also incorporates a variety of highly insulating low embodied energy materials that allow for rapid on site construction.
A design catalogue showcaseas a series of different building parts which can slot together in different combinations to create exciting and innovative store frontages which relate to their ultimate site context.
To ensure the stores suitability for the global market it has been tested in a series of climates, sizes and specifications ensuring a number of different options depending upon retailers ultimate requirements can be achieved.
The end result sees a vastly reduced payback period for end user investors with minimal upfront capital expenditure making the store propositions more affordable throughout their lifetime.
Using passivehaus principles and cold store panel technology we have managed to create a concept store that saves an average of 90,000 KWH’s (25k nett Model), 150,100 KWH’s (40k nett Model) of energy per year, the investment on capex to reach this figure pays back instantly on the larger store and in less than 5 years on the smaller store.
