The Advanced Design Group divided the brief into three areas of applications: roof – circle packing + connectivity graph, elevations – barycentric coordinate systems for mesh population, residential units – polyomino tiling for 3D Tetris with evolutionary optimization.
The competition was unique due to the deliberate lack of foreseeing the final cladding, roof and residential patterns, which resulted from the design of algorithmic and heuristic search methods. All applications were bound to design specifications independently and therefore easily updated to changes in the constraint set.
