AHR has secured planning permission for 4 East South (4ES), a new 6,000m² teaching and research building at the University of Bath. 4ES will provide students in the Faculty of Engineering and Design with a purpose-built facility for the study of engineering and architecture and will also house a new Computing Services data centre.
Located within close proximity to the existing Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering, 4ES will enhance the south east corner of the campus by creating a new edge to the extensive parkland to the south as well as providing an enhanced relationship to the landscaped area adjacent to the building. A ground floor gallery space will amplify the Faculty’s presence and connectivity to the campus.
AHR’s design for 4ES will provide students with dynamic open spaces for collaboration and learning, in addition to smaller group critique spaces, embracing the Faculty’s ethos for pan-discipline integration between architecture and engineering students.
