MADRAS COLLEGE

  • MADRAS COLLEGE CURRENTLY OPERATES FROM THREE SITES AND FIFE COUNCIL'S OBJECTIVE IS TO CREATE A 1,450 PUPIL SINGLE SITE SECONDARY SCHOOL. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE HISTORY AND IDENTIFICATION OF MADRAS COLLEGE ARE NOT LOST.
  • The new three storey Madras college is part of Fife Council’s plans to invest over £200 million in their school estate.

Our design incorporates three key social spaces into the building which reference the South Street Building, these being: The Quad, The South Street Lawn and The Courtyard.

The Large, central courtyard known as the Quad, is the social heart and gathering place for the school. Circulation flows through this space and the major social functions spill onto this ’Quad’ with direct links to the dining and assembly halls.

In the summer months, pupils gather on the front lawn and it is a significant space which has been recognised as such when designing the new school.

These three spaces are connected, visually and physically, ensuring the journey through the building is identifiable as Madras yet moving from the old to the new.
