AHR WAS APPOINTED AS LEAD DESIGNER, PRINCIPAL DESIGNER AND PROJECT MANAGER ON A SCHEME TO INSTALL THREE NEW WAITING ROOM SHELTERS TO THE MAIN PLATFORMS AT HUDDERSFIELD RAILWAY STATION. THE PROVISION ALSO INCLUDED REFURBISHMENTS TO THE FIRST CLASS LOUNGE, RELOCATION OF THE EMERGENCY CONTROL ROOM AND ADDITIONAL CAR PARK LIGHTING.
The First Class Lounge will be open for use seven days a week, offering many benefits including sofas, work stations with power points, free Wi-Fi, television, food and hot drinks. The relaxed, contemporary waiting area also has its own private toilet facilities.
Due to the Grade I listed nature of the building, it was vital that the design considered its historic architecture, whilst also complementing the existing station interior. As it was essential that the station remained fully operation throughout the works strategic planning was required, alongside careful liaison with the occupiers and contractors. The completed programme was delivered on time and to the full satisfaction of the client.
The First Class Lounge is the first facility of its kind at Huddersfield Station for 60 years and also for intercity train operator TransPennine Express. As one of the most used stations managed by TransPennine, the improvements will benefit over four million passengers who pass through every year.
