We have developed an evidence based approach to design and building consulting that combines creative thinking, research and new technologies to inform and improve all aspects of our work and to make better buildings and places.
We are imaginative: we start with an open mind. Our imagination leads us to find interesting ways to do things better. When combined with research and learning it encourages us to challenge preconceptions, introduce innovation and make better buildings. The results include buildings that last longer and savings that can cut budgets.
We are collaborative: working closely with clients and consultants maximises our ability to solve problems, deliver excellence and increase the efficiency of output. By nurturing open internal and external creativity, using the latest collaborative technology and valuing everyone’s input we bring collaborative dynamism to everything we do. It’s an approach that generates fertile and better connections – inspiration with practicality, creativity with technology, innovation with responsibility.
We are holistic: as architects and building consultants our work is uniquely holistic covering the full spectrum of a building’s life cycle from cradle to grave. As a team we have the skills to take a project from its conception, evolution, realisation, through to the final management of the facilities.
We are experts: over the last 170 years we have developed expertise across a range of sectors and specialisms.
Specialisms include: Architecture, Building Consultancy, Advanced design, Interior Design, Urban Design and Masterplanning, Landscape Design and Imaging
We learn: we go back to see how our buildings perform, we are interested in reducing the gap between their designed performance and their actual performance
To help us we use feedback from projects and post occupancy evaluations to inform the design process enabling a cycle of continuous improvement across all aspect of building design, procurement and performance.
We research: good design is driven by our passion to explore the art of what is possible. The more possibilities we can interrogate and select from the better the results will be. Our Advanced Design Group [ADG] provides AHR with a dedicated in-house resource undertaking research, developing digital practice and environmental analysis.
We apply technology: AHR has pioneered the use of digital technologies realising early on the opportunities that they could offer us. In 2004 we introduced both Computational Design and Advanced Modelling and in 2007 we adopted Building Information Modelling [BIM], again having recognised early on the impact it would have on the construction industry. These and new emerging technologies have the potential for enhancing creativity, improving communication, and producing better quality information, ultimately not only reducing the risk to projects of time and cost over runs but increasing the project’s design and environmental performance, construction quality and legislative compliance.
